  • Support for metric units—you can now choose to have distance and temperature measured in metric units by going to the Customize menu.
  • Brag button for weather tile—let your friends know where you’re sunbathing (or where you’re making snowmen)!
  • Various bug fixes and improvements—fixed some silly crashes that no one likes.

Letting the Madness Find You: March Madness on Grokr

Hey there friends,

With March Madness fully upon us, we at Grokr have been basking in the awesomeness that is following March Madness on Grokr. We feel like kings of knowledge, princes of prescience, veritable millionaires of madness! We wanted to spread the wealth around with this post and let you know how to let Grokr work for you this March:

  •  You can follow any team by going to Settings –> Manage Interests –> Add Sports Teams
  •  You can follow any game and get live scores and updates by going to your events tile, selecting the game you want to follow, and then hitting Follow This Game. A sports tile will pop up and you’ll immediately be delivered up-to-date content for that game.
  •  Brag about your bracket status and calling the late upsets by hitting the brag button on any sports tile to let your friends on Facebook, Twitter, etc. know how friggin’ awesome you are.

Keep grokking and the madness you seek will find you,

–The Grokr Team

Grokr and March Madness: The Art of the Brag

We all like to do it once a while. It’s loads of fun and highly gratifying, though perhaps (definitely) conceited. But after a hard-fought victory, how can you not brag about it? Who’s ever had their team win the NCAA Tourney and not talked about how awesome they are the next day? It’s okay, we’re entitled to a bit of bragging. And we at Grokr want you to indulge a little.

sports-brag-helpBut bragging about your latest victory or cashing in your wager just isn’t as fun in text format. When you look at your phone today, there’s really no fun way to brag. The best way to rub it in is by sending your friends one image that everyone can see that sums up just how awesome life is on the fairer side of the scoreboard. That’s why in this latest release, Grokr let’s you share your scoreboard by hitting the icon-brag@2x. You can reach your friends via Facebook, Twitter, e-mail and text, so you can let the world know that you called the only 13-4 upset this year or picked the one to win it all.

And soon Grokr won’t limit your bragging rights to just sports: with the Grokr brag button to come in a couple weeks, you can let everyone know that it’s always sunny and 70 in Southern California (or complain that it’s still 25 and snowing in the Windy City).

Now you can Grok your world, and brag about it too.

Grokr Announces V1.1: New Features and Fixes!

Grokr has been live for two months now and we’ve been thrilled with the response so far. We know there have been specific requests for everything from more customization features to availability of Grokr in additional countries. With this in mind, we’re happy to announce the release of Grokr 1.1 which includes the following updates:

Customization

Remember how a lot of you wanted to move titles around and make some of them go away? Well, now you can! Swipe tiles to the left to make them temporarily disappear or go to the ‘Customize’ section in ‘Settings’ to remove them permanently or to move them around however you like!

Adding New Interests

We have also simplified adding new interests to Grokr. Now you can add your interests, favorite sports teams or topics you want to follow by going to ‘Customize > Interests’ and using the search box available on the screen. For interests that we recognize, we will show you a preview with an ‘Add” button, for interests that we do not recognize, we will send it to our servers to start collecting information.

Battery Life

We definitely heard you on the topic of battery life and we’ve added a fix to the background GPS and battery usage by changing our location algorithm from an always-on service to an on-demand one. Our ambient location tracking vision was too early. We went from taking as much as 65% of your battery while running in the background to now virtually nothing at all. We’ve also improved our battery-economy in the foreground, taking less than 1% for every 4 minutes of app usage, which is better than average for an app of this capability.

Improved Facebook integration

This release incorporates the latest SDK and with it comes single sign-on to Facebook. You will need to re-authenticate because of the new SDK and for extra permissions we require from you. You should start seeing some pretty cool Facebook specific tiles in the next version (v1.2).

This release was about acknowledging your awesome feedback, getting our stuff together, and making things right by you. We’re very thankful to hear your thoughts on how we can make Grokr even better, so keep it coming and stay tuned for new functionality in future versions that are on the way. And not to worry for those of you outside of the U.S. who can’t wait to get Grokr on your iPhone — we’re planning to make an announcement about new geographies soon.
